Hartford
Wolf-Pack Golf for Kids Ends Season of Events
The innaugural David J. Carlson Humanitarian
Award was recently presented by The
Children's Home to Connecticut State Senator Billy Ciotto.
The award was given as part of the festivities at the annual Hartford
Wolf-Pack
Golf for Kids tournament at the TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, which benefits
The Children's Home.
Senator Ciotto was honored for his dedicated work on behalf of children in need.
"Billy Ciotto has been a tireless advocate and supporter of the Home," commented
Dr. David Jacobsen, CEO of The Children's Home. "He is always available
to work with and help us whenever we call upon him."
Most recently, Senator Ciotto was the catalyst in securing $400,000 in state
bonding money for The Children's Home as it begins the process of a campaign
for a new building to allow for single-bed residential rooms.
The award is named in honor of David J. Carlson, who retired in 2002 as Chief
Executive of The Children's Home after 33 years of service to children in need.
Prior to serving as CEO, Mr. Carlson was a residential counselor, social worker,
and Director of Treatment Services at the Home.
In presenting the award to Senator Ciotto, Mr. Carlson recalled their first meeting
ten years ago.
"I remember an instant connection between the two of us, both children of
immigrant parents," he stated. "One of the first things he ever said
to me was, 'You at The Children's Home are doing God's work. I will do whatever
I can to help you at the state level.'"
