Special Education Teacher, Middle School Youth
We have an immediate opening for a Special Education Teacher who will work to strengthen a child's academic, behavioral, emotional, social and vocational skills, enabling the child to maximize his/her potential and return to mainstream community schooling. S/he will implement an educational program, using assistive technology, to facilitate the treatment process in compliance with the student’s IEP. S/he will employ a variety of instructional strategies that enable students to think critically, solve problems and demonstrate learning skills.
Requirements include: A Bachelor's degree in Special Education from an accredited college or university and CT Certification in Special Education. Minimum two years teaching experience in a special education classroom setting; experience with students who are developmentally disabled preferred.
Knowledge of materials and functions of a Positive Behavioral Support system.
A positive attitude, demonstrated good judgment and ability to establish rapport with students, colleagues and direct care employees from diverse ethnic, economic, educational and religious backgrounds. Commitment to the CT Code of Responsibility for Teachers. Fluency in Spanish is a plus.

Residential Counselor, full-time
Nehemiah Boys’ House
The Residential Counselor provides guidance, supervision, mentoring and life skills training to youth in residence, individually and in groups. S/he ensures maintenance of a healthy, therapeutic milieu and sound, trauma-informed, treatment focused therapeutic activities in the House. At least one Residential Counselor in each House may be named as Educational, Family, Physical Health/Life Skills or Spiritual Liaison for the House. The Residential Counselor’s position involves both 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. shifts. This position may involve the use of physical restraints (using Therapeutic Crisis Intervention) if a young person is attempting to hurt him/herself or another human being. This is a full-time, non-exempt position
Education, Experience and Other Qualifications: AS degree in psychology, social work or a human services field (BA or BS degree preferred), and one year of experience working with emotionally disturbed, behaviorally disordered youth are required. Training in Therapeutic Crisis Intervention, Trauma Informed Care, Risking Connection and CPR and First Aid is required and may be provided by the agency post-hire, before assuming job responsibilities. The ability to apply the knowledge acquired during training while fulfilling job responsibilities with the youth is requisite. A valid driver’s license and good driving record are required to ensure safety of the youth and coverage by the agency’s insurance carrier. The ability to work collegially with youth and other employees from diverse educational, ethnic, economic and educational backgrounds is required.
