Cash Gifts

Dear Friend,

There are a few people reading this who are runners. For the rest of us it may be hard to understand why someone would run 50 miles, let alone in celebration of his 50th birthday! Jim Hite has
committed to doing just that on October 22, 2011. Jim is a member of Hilltop Covenant Church, a
marathoner, and a husband and father.
Jim will run 50 miles to bring awareness and resources to The Children’s Home. If you want to run, walk or jog in this event, please go to our website www.childhome.org/events/50%20steps.htm to learn more. Jim’s run is called “50 Steps to a Healthier Future”
The purpose of Jim’s run is to help raise awareness for healthy living and provide support for The Children’s Home. In 2008, Jim’s doctor told him he must lose weight, lessen stress and lower his blood sugar. That day he made a life changing decision to live healthy and strong. Jim believes that “we need to support our children mentally and physically because they are our future; healthy minds and healthy bodies lead to healthy souls”.
The goal is to raise $50,000 from this mailing, sponsors and runners to support Jim’s run, and the young people and their families who are receiving care at The Children’s Home. If 1,000 people gave $50 we would reach our goal! We know some cannot give that much and others may be able to give many times that.
Whether you give, $5, $50, $500, or $5,000 - you will be helping the young people at The Children’s Home live healthier and happier lives. Watch our web-site for progress on this project. We hope you will join us to encourage Jim and help him celebrate his 50th birthday!

Sincerely
Garrell S. Mullaney

The State provides our children with the basics; your donations help us give them a Home.

We are reimbursed by the state and local school districts for the basic care, treatment and education services that we provide for our residents. We rely on the generosity of donors and foundations to support our vocational programs; the summer program experiences; Christmas and birthday presents; all activities from a rented DVD to a movie ticket or athletic event; furnishings, games and equipment.  Most of what makes a child feel special comes from our donors!

Cash donations are used for the following when suitable in-kind donations are not available;

  • Furniture and furnishings for children’s bedrooms, living rooms, play rooms and quiet rooms

  • Haircuts, personal hygiene needs, sun protection, swimsuits, under clothing, and other items that need to be purchased new, or new each year

  • Replace windows, fixtures, kitchen ware, carpets and other items that get heavy use

  • Replace the commercial appliances used to cook nearly 300 meals per day during the school year and 200 meals per day in summer, wash and sanitize dishes, and refrigerate or freeze food.

  • Summer program camp counselors, a life guard, job coaches and teachers.

  • Computers and internet service, lawn care equipment, laundering machines

The Children’s Home and all of its programs and affiliates depend on the cash donations of many donors in order to provide the best possible living arrangements and enrichment opportunities for the children. We value every gift and every giver. Thank you!!
