Help Us Help Kids
Donations of Goods
We are always grateful to receive donations of new and gently used items on behalf of the children, their families and The Home. Please know that we have very little storage space. When our storage is full, we may only take items that can be used right away by our children, their families, or our staff for the purposes of caring for our children. Just a few things to keep in mind about what we cannot accept:
- Clothing that needs repairs – we do not have the capacity to repair clothing.
- Toys, bicycles, furniture or other items that need repair or have parts missing – the same holds true as for clothing.
- Used undergarments, socks, or sheets/pillow cases – due to hygiene reasons, we have to decline these items.
- Encyclopedias, reference books and the like that are older than 2 years old – our children need to have the best education and homework aids possible to give them a chance to catch up to other children.
- Heavily worn shoes, boots, coats or other outerwear – many items like these are not comfortable, or do not keep a child warm enough.
If you are unsure if we will be able to use what you have to donate, please call Sharon Graves at (860) 635-6010 Ext. 327. Thank you for thinking of us and our children!

Attn: Development
The Children's Home
60 Hicksville Rd.
Cromwell, CT 06416
or by donating through our secure online site.
Checks may be made payable to "The Children's Home". The Children's Home is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization and all gifts are tax deductible to the extent the law allows.
A special thank you to our major donors this past fiscal year (July 1, 2007 to June 30, 2008)!
Where Does My Contribution Go? The Children's Home hosts many underfunded or non-funded activities that go beyond what is required by agencies that refer children into our care. These include summer education and worker preparation projects, religious education, summer camps, field trips, cultural events, recreational activities, and social and life skills activities. Moreover, private funding ensures both the future and character of The Children's Home to provide the finest facilities, equipment and opportunities for our kids. Your support keeps the "Home" in The Children's Home!
How Can I Help? The Children's Home accepts gifts of cash, securities and tangible items that can be used in the service of helping children. In addition, The Children's Home will accept automobiles, real estate or other tangible items provided they may be of use to the Home or can be liquidated.
Where is the Greatest Need? The Finance Committee of the Board of Directors places the following priorities on giving:
Unrestricted gifts of cash, securities, bequests or other financial resources that can be used to supplement programs or operations or which can be liquidated to provide funds for operations or other needs.
Restricted gifts in support of the Capital Campaign building project, Summer Camp or Summer Work Study Experience, wish list needs and special activities for children who live or go to school at The Children's Home.
Gifts to the Endowment Fund. This is a wonderful opportunity to take advantage of tax savings today or give through a bequest or other types of delayed giving. The Children's Home Development Office can give you suggestions for trusted experts who are available to work with you and your financial planners.
