Artist
presents program on "Propylaia" painting
Rev. Dr. Herbert K. Jacobsen recently
presented a program to students and
staff based on his painting "Propylaia." This
piece of art, which took more than 20 years
to create, is based on the the Scripture, "I am the gate" from
John 10:9, 10.
The inscription on the print reads:
The entrance to the
Acropolis in Athens is through a complex
known as the Propylaia. Depicted on the
top of the hill, it is through the Propylaia
that people of antiquity attempted to approach
the gods.
In the foreground stands a small chapel, appearing insignificant amidst the grandeur
of the buildings above it. Yet this humble chapel proclaims good news. "The
God who made heaven and earth does not dwell in buildings made by man . . ."
Indeed, the Lord of heaven and earth has graciously provided an entrance gate
to heaven for everyone through the life, death and resurrection of Christ Jesus,
the true Propylaia.
John 10:9,10
