Join
the Volunteer Program at The Children's Home!
Since 1900,
The Children's Home of Cromwell, CT has cared
for needy children. Today that challenge
is greater than ever as we provide emotional,
educational, physical, social, behavioral,
and spiritual assistance to 71 abused, negelected,
and troubled Connecticut children.
What are
the Buddy and Tutor Programs all about?
The greatest need for many of the children at The Children's Home is companionship
with a trustworthy adult who will show that people do care. The Buddy
Program meets every Tuesday night during the school year from 6:00
p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Volunteer mentors from the community are paired with a child,
and they spend
an hour working on homework, playing games, or simply talking.
The Tutor Program is similar except that the volunteer and child focus more on helping with academics. There
is
no skill
or previous
experience necessary for any of these programs - just the ability to give up
a little of your time for a child.
There are also numerous volunteer opportunities during school hours at The
Learning Center.
In whatever way you wish to help, we will work to be flexible to your schedule
and skills.
How can
I get involved?
Call Bernice Jalbert, Volunteer Coordinator at The Children's Home, at 860.635.6010,
X363, or email her at bjalbert@childhome.org. She
will hold a brief interview with you, ask you
to fill out a short application form, and work
with you and the agency staff to pair you with
an appropriate child.
