Activities Volunteers
Much of our programming for our young people focuses on building positive relationships and interpersonal skills. Giving them opportunities to interact in positive ways with individuals and diverse groups allows them to practice the new skills they are developing. We depend on community volunteers to add this dimension to our programs.
Activities Volunteers work with our Volunteer Coordinator and Therapeutic Recreational staff to help with games and special activities for our young people. These activities can be designed with an eye toward promoting good sportsmanship, cooperation and improving social skills for our young people. Volunteers can also provide opportunities to expose our young people to new activities which allow them to discover their own new interests and talents.
If you belong to a club or group, you might sponsor an activity night of board games or perhaps a basketball game in our gymnasium. Other ideas might include an ice cream social or a night of Bingo complete with prizes. Be creative! Themed socials are limited only by your imagination!
Individual Activities Volunteers can share a hobby or interest by teaching our residents a craft or skill. For example knitting classes, model building, sewing, and yoga have been popular classes. Ideas in this area are also unlimited.
Please contact , Volunteer Coordinator for The Children’s Home by phone (860) 635-6010 ext. 363 for more details about how to get involved!
