Volunteer Opportunities

Overview of Volunteer Programs

The Children’s Home is blessed to benefit from the dedication of many Volunteers who give of their time and talent to help us in daily programming for our residents.  There are a number of opportunities for Volunteers to help us, whether by working directly with the young people here or by working in areas which support our staff as they provide services to our young people and their families.  Some of these opportunities include:

The Buddy Program
Activities Volunteers
Program Supportive Volunteers

Attention Citizens Financial Group/Citizens Bank employees: RBS Americas suports communities where their employees work. They will provide a $250 gift to non-profits at which an employee volunteers 50 or more hours of their time during the year. Please contact your company's Community Cashback Support program at 888-460-1600 or communitycashback@citizensbank.com to make your request on behalf of The Children's Home. You may be able to make this request each year, please ask. Thank you!

 

 



Youth Groups, mission groups   Tutoring Program   Learning Center Volunteering  

Bring your group to work at The Children's Home!  Work projects vary from construction and indoor work to landscaping, painting and event planning.

Volunteers are paired with a young person and help with homework and make-up assignments in these and other areas with the goal of helping the young person feel more confident in their academic abilities.

Classroom Volunteers assist both the students and their teachers in the classroom by giving struggling students the extra support they need to complete assignments and catch up on extra work.

Potential Volunteers go through a screening process that is required by the State of Connecticut and includes background checks.  We provide initial training and on-going consultation as Volunteers interact with our young people.
